The Walking Ghost

What use is it to be clever and gay?
The facade wears off at the end of the day.
Long nights leave dark circles under the eyes.
Rosy cheeks fade to inflamed red & gray.
Youth quickly fades away.

What importance is pride and clever talk
If your talk is a game & you don't walk the walk?
When your smile becomes a mask hiding suffering,
All the pretend joy becomes folly
Reality fades away
And things that once seemed jolly
are revealed as sordid and gray.

Oh you run your games!
You tell me all is well
When it is merely strange.
Your lies are just folly.
I see you fading away.
A dead man walking.
A ghost with a needle in your arm.

Drugs turn you into a Zombie.
Eating your own brains.
